My 3 Favorite Things About My College Town

I have been attending Western Illinois University in Macomb for the past 4 years. Being from the suburbs of Chicago I was in a bit of a shock my freshman year. There was no mall, not many food options, and a lack of nail/hair salon options. Although I hated the rural life at first I have grown to appreciate small things in life. I soon realized you don't need all these big stores and city life to have fun. I was able to develop relations with friends over bonfires and exploring lakes and backroads. Never did I think I would've grown to love all the cornfields Macomb has to offer but soon enough I did. These are my 3 favorite things about my college town.

  1. The People

After adapting to life here I have met some of the most down to earth amazing people her in Macomb. In the city everyone is looking at all the finer thing and never looking at who you are as a person. Back home you're considered “cool” based on the car you drive and how big your house is. In Macomb that doesn't exist and that is why I love the people here. I was able to meet all of my best friends and my boyfriend in this town and those are relationships I will cherish forever.

2. The School

At first I wasn't sure if I liked the vibe of a smaller school. I changed my opinion on that after I joined my sorority. I met so many people and was introduced to so many more thing at WIU. Although it may be small it still feels big sometimes.

3. Night Life

Macomb is such a weird place. You can walk down the block on a Friday night after the bar and run into house parties where any one is always invited inside. I typically don't attend but it is a very kind gesture. Anytime I do decide to go out the drink prices are amazing deals compared to the city. I know this may seem like a silly third reason why I love Macomb but even friends from home have visited me and they always say the same thing “macomb is so cheap!”
